Golf power rankings: Who lurks behind British Open champ Scottie Scheffler?

Now that major championship season is over, it's a good time to reflect on where the stars rank in golf. Combining the best of the PGA Tour and LIV Golf, here's our top 10 in inverse order:

10. Justin Thomas | PGA Tour

Thomas has a win and three runner-up finishes this season, but his recent major championship performances are alarming. The American has seven missed cuts and just one top-30 finish in his past 14 major starts, so he doesn't deserve to be higher than 10th.

9. Harris English | PGA Tour

English scored his fifth career PGA Tour win earlier this season at the Farmers Insurance Open, and he has become a fantastic major championship performer (two runner-up finishes and a T12) this season. He should be on the U.S. Ryder Cup team at Bethpage Black.

8. Tyrrell Hatton | LIV Golf

Hatton was a consistent performer in majors this season, finishing T14 at the Masters, T4 at the PGA Championship and T16 at the Open Championship. The Englishman is one of the few players in the world without a glaring weakness.

7. Russell Henley | PGA Tour

Speaking of players without a glaring weakness, Henley ranks fifth on the PGA Tour this season in total strokes gained, 15th in strokes gained on approach, 14th in driving accuracy and 33rd in strokes gained from putting. He also has as many top-10 finishes (nine) as Rory McIlroy this season.

6. Tommy Fleetwood | PGA Tour

Although Fleetwood doesn't have a win on the PGA Tour, his consistency is impressive. The 34-year-old has 13 top-22 finishes in 17 worldwide starts this season and ranks fourth on Tour in total strokes gained.

5. Jon Rahm | LIV Golf

Rahm must be disappointed to come out of the 2025 season with no major championship hardware, but 11 top-10 finishes in his past 14 worldwide starts keep him inside the top five. The Spaniard will be a force to be reckoned with at the Ryder Cup in September.

4. Xander Schauffele | PGA Tour

Schauffele never got it going after missing time because of a rib injury earlier this season, but he still ranks seventh on Tour in strokes gained on approach and 26th in driving distance. With a full offseason ahead to work on his touch on and around the greens, Schauffele should return to his old form in 2026.

3. Bryson DeChambeau | LIV Golf

DeChambeau's driver continues to operate as one of the most dominant weapons in golf. His underrated short game and improved iron play have propelled him to a win and five more top-10s in his past eight major starts.

2. Rory McIlroy | PGA Tour

McIlroy officially established himself as the best European golfer of all time by winning the 2025 Masters to complete the career Grand Slam. The Northern Irishman has three wins and 10 more top-20 finishes in 15 worldwide starts this year.

1. Scottie Scheffler | PGA Tour

Scheffler won the British Open on July 20, his second major championship of the season and fourth of his career. He also ranks No. 1 on the PGA Tour this season in total strokes gained, strokes gained from off the tee, strokes gained on approach, scoring average, birdie or better percentage and bogey avoidance. No one is even close to stealing his seat on the throne.
