Ty Gibbs will go down as the winner of NASCAR's inaugural In-Season Challenge.
Gibbs beat fellow challenger Ty Dillon in a head-to-head matchup in Sunday's Brickyard 400 at Indianapolis Motor Speedway in order to win the $1M prize.
The Challenge — a similar idea to the NBA Cup that debuted in 2023 — began with 32 drivers in contention at EchoPark Speedway on June 28, with the field being cut in half with every passing week.
Early damage incurred on Dillon's No. 10 Kaulig Racing Chevrolet in a restart stack-up severely hurt Dillon's chances, as he was mired a lap down for much of the race. Gibbs was only able to muster a 21st-place finish, but stayed on the lead lap and was able to beat Dillon — who finished 28th — handily.
Gibbs beat Justin Haley at Atlanta, AJ Allmendinger at Chicago, Zane Smith at Sonoma and Tyler Reddick at Dover in order to advance to the final round.
Gibbs' tournament run has come in the midst of a stretch of seven consecutive top-15 finishes going into Sunday's Brickyard 400.
The No. 54 team will have plenty of cash on hand as the Cup Series shifts its attention to the Aug. 3 race at Iowa Speedway.
