Where Eugenio Suarez's trade value stands after latest injury update

Eugenio Suarez — and the Arizona Diamondbacks — can breathe a massive sigh of relief.

The All-Star third baseman was feared to have suffered a broken finger after being struck by Tigers reliever Will Vest with a 95.6 mph fastball near the end of Detroit's 5-1 victory on Monday. A prime trade candidate for the middling D-backs ahead of the deadline (Thursday at 6 p.m. ET), a serious injury would have taken Suarez out of trade talks. Luckily for both sides, the veteran infielder shared that both a CT scan and an MRI came back negative, confirming no broken bones, per MLB.com's Steve Gilbert.

At 51-56, the Diamondbacks are quickly falling behind in the National League wild-card race. Trailing the San Diego Padres by seven games, Arizona isn't completely out of it, but early signs have shown the team will be sellers over the next two days. The Diamondbacks have already unloaded first baseman Josh Naylor and could look to move starting pitchers Zac Gallen and Merrill Kelly in the coming days, as well.

Suarez may be the Diamondbacks' best trade chip, a status the 34-year-old still holds now that he's clear from a long-term injury designation. Currently ranked 12th among active players in home runs, Suarez has always had pop to his game. But with the way he's been swinging his bat this season, Suarez would provide a massive injection of offense to any playoff-hopeful squad.

Ironically, the team that injured him was noted as one of his potential suitors. The Tigers have bounced back over their last two contests, but the team was previously stuck in a rough scoring drought that resulted in 10 losses in 11 games. Still without an everyday third basemen on the roster, the Tigers would benefit as much as anyone from adding Suarez. Nearly every postseason squad would benefit with Suarez's bat in the middle of their lineup. However, it appears to be a real possibility that the 12-year veteran heads to Detroit via trade.
