MLB Speedway Classic at Bristol pushed to Sunday due to rain

The MLB Speedway Classic at Bristol Motor Speedway has been pushed back to Sunday after persistent rain showers.

Saturday's game between the Braves (46-63) and Reds (58-53) began at 9:40 p.m. ET, over two hours after the scheduled first pitch of 7:15. The game managed to get into the bottom of the first inning before the rain became strong enough to warrant a delay, and eventually, a suspension of the game to Sunday afternoon.

Chase Burns threw a perfect top of the first for Cincinnati, while Austin Cox gave up three consecutive hits that resulted in Elly De La Cruz scoring on an Austin Hays single. Cincinnati leads 1-0 in the bottom of the first inning.

Miguel Andujar will be up to bat when the game resumes on Sunday with one out and runners on first and second.

The Speedway Classic is the first MLB game to be held in the state of Tennessee and set a record for the highest attendance ever for an MLB regular season game.

Coverage of the game will resume at 1 p.m. ET on Sunday, with coverage on FOX. The Speedway Classic is a rubber match in a three-game series between Atlanta and Cincinnati. Both the Braves and Reds were originally scheduled for an off day on Sunday.

Sunday's forecast currently calls for intermittent showers with partly cloudy skies.
