Jerry Jones takes shot at Micah Parsons when explaining how Cowboys can beat Packers

Jerry Jones telegraphed why losing Micah Parsons wasn't the end of the world for the Dallas Cowboys when he explained how his team could defeat the Green Bay Packers in Week 4.

On Thursday, the Cowboys traded Parsons to the Packers, a team that is 3-0 against Dallas in the playoffs since 2014.

During his news conference on Thursday, Jones referenced needing to get better in run defense as a factor that led to Dallas making the trade, seemingly taking a shot at Parsons about a problem the defense has when he's on the field.

“The facts are specifically, we need to stop the run," Jones said via Clarence Hill Jr. of All City DLLS. "And we haven’t been able to stop the run in key times for several years. And when you have the kind of extraordinary pass rush that [Micah] had, then the way to mitigate that pass rush is to run at you.

"If the pass rush doesn’t get you ahead pretty big time, and you’re playing even or behind, then you’ve really got a problem in stopping the run.”

Cowboys owner Jerry Jones said the Cowboys valued stopping run more than Micah Parsons pass rush and giving him that contract. It was in best interest of the Cowboys:

While Jones highlighted Parsons' strengths as a pass-rusher, the Cowboys have had noted issues stopping the run since the All-Pro joined the team in 2021. Jones believes the trade will help Dallas be better in the playoffs and stop the run.

A reporter asked Jones about what he expects when Dallas plays the Packers in Week 4. Jones said the Cowboys' best chance to win was to get ahead early and run the ball at Parsons and a Clark-less Packers defense.

"Micah will be problematic, very problematic," Jones said via Ashley Washburn of TMJ4 News. "I suggest we get ahead and run the ball."

That's the Cowboys' best game plan. Without their best pass rusher, Dallas needs the offense, the best unit on the team, get ahead with Dak Prescott throwing to CeeDee Lamb and George Pickens.

The trick will be for the offensive line to give Prescott enough time to throw with a motivated and well-paid Parsons on the attack.
