Alabama star modeling his game off former Heisman Trophy winner

There are a lot of running backs in Alabama Crimson Tide history who are worth emulating. Senior Crimson Tide running back Jam Miller has been studying one in particular — and he just happens to be a past Heisman Trophy winner.

“Mark Ingram,” Miller said at Alabama media day while discussing who he is trying to model his game after (h/t On3). “You know, watching some of his film when he was here. He was a great back. Just watching him, I try to learn some of the things he does, and also put it in my game.”

Ingram was a star at Alabama. He rushed 572 times in his Crimson Tide career and turned those touches into 3,261 yards and 42 touchdowns. He also caught 60 passes for 670 receiving yards and four touchdowns. In 2009, Ingram won the Heisman Trophy after putting up 1,658 yards and 17 touchdowns on the ground.

Checking in at 5-foot-9 and 215 pounds, Ingram was a wrecking ball, but Miller also saw some elusiveness in his game to go along with the physicality.

“He was great at making people miss. He was being physical,” Miller said. “Breaking arm tackles, breaking tackles. Just doing a whole lot of great things on the field."

Miller is coming off a 2024 season that saw him rush 145 times for 668 yards and seven touchdowns, averaging a healthy 4.6 yards per carry. He's entering his fourth season in Tuscaloosa and his second season in Kalen DeBoer's system, and he's undoubtedly hoping this 2025 season will be his best yet.

If Miller even has half the success in 2025 that Ingram had in that 2009 season, he'll have one heck of a senior season in Tuscaloosa.
