USA Basketball's roster for AmeriCup features plenty of NBA experience

USA Basketball revealed on Friday who will be suiting up for them for the upcoming FIBA AmeriCup in Managua, Nicaragua.

The 12-man roster features former college standouts as well as some players with NBA and NBA G League experience.

The roster includes the following players:

  • Zach Auguste
  • Robert Baker II
  • Tyler Cavanaugh
  • Jack Cooley
  • Jarell Eddie
  • Langston Galloway
  • Jerian Grant
  • Elijah Pemberton
  • Jahmi’us Ramsey
  • Cam Reynolds
  • Javonte Smart
  • Speedy Smith

Eight players have NBA experience, headlined by Galloway (452 games in eight years) and Grant (279 games in five years). The only players without NBA experience are Auguste, Baker, Pemberton and Smith.

Auguste, Cooley, Eddie, Grant and Smith will all be making their debut for USA Basketball, while the others have various experience on USA rosters both at the senior and youth national team levels.

USA's rosters for events such as the AmeriCup aren't star-studded like they are for other major international tournaments, including the Olympics and FIBA World Cups.

For the players who are selected for the team, it's a great honor to showcase their talent and get the opportunity to say that they represent their country on the international stage.

There have been 19 editions of the AmeriCup, and the USA has participated in 11 of them with seven gold medals, one silver medal and one bronze medal.

USA begins its tournament with group play, as it will play against Bahamas on Aug. 23, Uruguay on Aug. 24 and  Brazil on Aug. 26.
