Sophie Cunningham had no words for Indiana Fever's season-ending injuries

The Indiana Fever just can't catch a break. Amid Caitlin Clark's lengthy absence due to a groin issue, the team suffered another blow to its backcourt with two season-ending injuries.

Veteran guards Sydney Colson and Aari McDonald have been ruled out for the rest of the campaign due to the injuries they sustained during Thursday's game against the Phoenix Mercury. Colson tore her left ACL in the contest, while McDonald broke a bone in her right foot.

That means the Fever are now down to nine healthy bodies, with Clark still out indefinitely.

Sophie Cunningham expresses pain over Fever setback

After the Fever announced the season-ending injuries of both Colson and McDonald, Sophie Cunningham shared her reaction to the news in the comments section of the team's post.

Cunningham didn't say anything, but she used a single pensive face emoji to highlight how sad she is about the development.

For what it's worth, Cunningham also felt the physicality of Thursday's game, tweaking her ankle and suffering a black eye. Fortunately for the Fever, she didn't land on the injury report and appears to be doing well.

What do the injuries mean for Cunningham, Fever?

With Clark, Colson and McDonald out, the Fever only have three healthy guards on the roster: Cunningham, Kelsey Mitchell and Lexie Hull.

Mitchell has already been doing a lot of heavy lifting since Clark was sidelined, and with two more guards out, her role is expected to increase even more. Cunningham and Hull are also set to see an increase in their minutes and workload as a result.

It remains to be seen what the Fever will do with their roster, but there could be an opportunity for them to sign another player to address their roster needs. As Brian Haenchen of IndyStar noted, they are eligible to sign a player through the emergency hardship waiver.
