Rey Mysterio Eyes August WWE Return After Injury and Surgery

The bad luck for WWE legend Rey Mysterio began the night before WrestleMania. In a six-man tag match on SmackDown, he had just run off an opponent when suddenly he felt a sharp tear. The diagnosis? A torn groin.

This damage to Rey compelled WWE to cancel his upcoming singles match and reschedule those matches with Rey Fenix.  This event was expected to be a historic chapter in WrestleMania, but instead became a disaster.

Rey Mysterio’s Two Surgeries and Recovery Plan

Rey Mysterio, in the weeks that followed, shared that he tore his groin and had to have surgery. During his absence, he had also undergone surgery to fix a ruptured eardrum. It is confirmed from multiple sources that the physical therapy is ongoing, and he is aiming to get back soon.

It’s almost time for Mysterio to come back, and he has suggested as such both on and off camera. WWE has no plans of letting go of Mysterio, but he has not yet been cleared to resume in-ring action. In June, he kicked off the WWE x AAA Worlds Collide show with a much-welcomed appearance and promo. He may not be in the ring right, but it made one thing clear: WWE still desires him to be in the spotlight.

Indicators of a Recovery

Even Mexico house shows were being advertised with Rey Mysterio, as the promotion hinted at medical clearance sooner rather than later. Hopefully, we see Rey Mysterio as quickly as possible, probably in August, granted WWE’s medical team deems him healthy.

The company isn’t rushing him back just for a quick pop. A torn groin and ear-related medical issues are not minor. Add to that the years Rey Mysterio spent in the ring. Waiting till August, WWE ensures him the most adequate opportunity to recover completely and start working at full throttle.
