Quarterback Marcel Reed has a chance to be a superstar for the No. 19-ranked Texas A&M Aggies in 2025.
He has everything you look for in a modern quarterback. The dual-threat quarterback is an explosive play waiting to happen, and he's only a redshirt sophomore.
If Reed is able to take a step up from his redshirt freshman season, which was already impressive, Texas A&M has a chance to make some noise this season. In the meantime, he and the Aggies are preparing for what will be a tough slate. The Aggies are scheduled to face five ranked teams in 2025, including No. 6 Notre Dame and No. 1 Texas, both on the road.
Part of the preparation for Reed has been having conversations with legendary Texas A&M quarterback Johnny Manziel, who won the Heisman Trophy with the Aggies as a freshman in 2012.
Manziel recently revealed on the "Mostly Sports with Mark Titus & Brandon Walker" show that he has been giving Reed feedback after watching practice footage.
“I had a good conversation with Marcel Reed this week,” Manziel said (h/t On3). “I’ve been watching some practice film and stuff, trying to give him some pointers that I think could help him out."
Reed played in 11 games and started eight for Texas A&M last season. He notched 1,864 yards and 15 touchdowns while rushing for 547 yards and seven touchdowns on the ground.
Manziel threw for 7,820 yards and 63 touchdowns in two seasons with the Aggies while also rushing for 2,169 yards and 30 touchdowns. That's 93 total touchdowns in just two seasons. There's a reason he earned the nickname of "Johnny Football" and was selected in the first round of the 2014 NFL Draft.
Manziel's NFL career quickly fizzled out, partly due to off-field issues, but he's now back around the Aggies in an unofficial capacity, and he seems all-in on this new era of Texas A&M football.
"Excited for [head coach Mike] Elko, the vibe he brings, what he means to the program. He embraces the Aggie Spirit," Manziel said.
"I say this every single year, but I feel confident with where we are," the former quarterback continued. "We really have some players. He’s [Elko] done a good job recruiting. So, you know, I’m hoping for the best.”
