Green Bay Packers quarterback Jordan Love will reportedly not appear in another preseason game following surgery on his left thumb this week.
Love suffered the injury during the Packers' 30-10 loss to the New York Jets on Saturday. He attempted to practice on Monday, but elected to undergo surgery to hopefully heal before Week 1.
Per Ashley Washburn of TMJ4 News, Packers head coach Matt LaFleur confirmed on Thursday that Love had successful surgery. Green Bay doesn't expect Love to participate this week and will proceed carefully when he returns to practice.
"Surgery went well and he's in great spirits," LaFleur said of Love. "He's here with us now. Now it's about putting in the work to get the thumb rehabbed."
LaFleur doesn't believe Love will throw immediately upon returning.
"I wouldn't say right away," said LaFleur, "but we anticipate there will be some sort of participation next week."

While quarterback injuries are never timely, Love's injury couldn't have come at a worse time for the Packers. Green Bay is already dealing with injuries at wide receiver and tight end, leading to noticeable blunders during their game against the Jets on Aug. 9.
The Packers are remaining cautious with several of their injured veterans in training camp. Cornerback Nate Hobbs had preventive surgery on his knee earlier in August but is expected to return by Week 1. Meanwhile, safety Xavier McKinney has missed practices to nurse his calf.
These missed practices could affect Green Bay's start to the season, but LaFleur hopes that resting his injured stars will ultimately pay off.
