The Indianapolis Colts find themselves in an familiar position heading into the 2025 season.
It was confirmed on Tuesday that offseason acquisition Daniel Jones would be the team's Week 1 starter over 2023 first-round draft pick Anthony Richardson Sr., making for a strange decision that could lead to another wasted season for a franchise needing anything but.
Former NFL executive and current ESPN analyst Louis Riddick was on Wednesday's edition of "Get Up" and put head coach Shane Steichen and general manager Chris Ballard on the hot seat if the results do not improve.
"If you do not level up and this does not result in you turning this franchise around and you wind up making a serious run in the (AFC) South and maybe try to win the division, your jobs are on the line, especially with new ownership, a fresh set of eyes evaluating this whole thing," Riddick said. "I think this is all or nothing for them right now. And for Anthony, it really does feel like his time is over."

Richardson's career up to this point has been littered with multiple injuries that have resulted in him only starting 15 of a possible 32 games. He was even benched two weeks last fall after he temporarily removed himself from game action because he was too "tired."
This begs the question of whether Richardson will request a trade and, if so, which teams would be interested in acquiring him.
Simply put, it has not been a good start to Richardson's professional career. Despite some flashes of his strong arm and athleticism, Richardson has thrown 11 TDs and 13 interceptions so far and posted the worst completion percentage (47.7%) of any qualified QB last season.
The lack of efficiency and constant injuries led the Colts to name Jones as the team's starter. While the experience is on his side with six seasons in the league, Jones has a combined record of 24-44-1 as a starter. He, too, has been inefficient throwing the ball with 47 interceptions.
According to StatMuse, the Colts were tied for the fifth-most interceptions (16) last season, making it is hard to see Jones being much of an improvement over Richardson given the giveaways in his career so far.
For a franchise that has not made the postseason since the 2020 season and won no more than nine games in a season since, it does not appear they are set up for anything different in 2025. If that is the case and the Colts are a middling team once again that fails to make the postseason, there could be a lot of changes soon to follow.
