49ers superstar gives fans glimmer of hope with comments on Christian McCaffrey

Christian McCaffrey has become somewhat of a forgotten man because of all the injuries he dealt with last season, but one San Francisco 49ers veteran says the star running back looks poised for another monster campaign in 2025.

Trent Williams was asked on Thursday for his assessment of McCaffrey's performance in training camp and the offseason thus far. The 11-time Pro Bowl offensive tackle said McCaffrey looks like the explosive playmaker who won the NFL Offensive Player of the Year award for the 2023-24 season.

"Obviously, y'all got eyes like I do. Christian looks fantastic," Williams said. "He looks like Offensive-Player-of-The-Year Christian. That's really, really refreshing to see, knowing what he had to deal with last year, just the little nicks and knacks and not being able to do what he loves. To see him out there this year 100 percent healthy, treating every play like it's his last, playing with his hair on fire, it really motivates the guys when you've got a generational talent like that that brings it to work and practice every day."

McCaffrey had 1,459 rushing yards, 564 receiving yards and 21 total touchdowns in 2023, which was his first full season with the Niners. He was then limited to just four games last season.

McCaffrey dealt with calf and Achilles injuries throughout the preseason last year. The 49ers kept making it seem as though he might be ready for Week 1, but he did not make his season debut until Nov. 10. McCaffrey then suffered a knee injury in his fourth game back and was shut down for the remainder of the year.

There is little question that McCaffrey is one of the most dangerous players in the NFL when healthy. The question is whether the 29-year-old can find a way to stay on the field. Niners fans can only hope McCaffrey is as healthy as Williams says.
