Bills waive son of NFL legend despite uniquely impressive preseason

The Buffalo Bills have once again waived the son of an NFL legend following his impressive preseason.

Frank Gore Jr., the son of former NFL running back Frank Gore, was waived by the Bills on Tuesday. The decision came as somewhat of a surprise, as Gore Jr. was impressive in Buffalo's three preseason games.

Gore Jr. finished the preseason with 104 rushing yards on 23 carries. He also had 11 catches for 109 receiving yards. Gore Jr. was the only player in the NFL who had more than 100 yards rushing and 100 yards receiving during the preseason.

The Bills signed Gore as an undrafted free agent out of Southern Miss last year. He was also effective during his first NFL preseason, but the team felt he did not do enough to earn a 53-man roster spot. The 23-year-old was signed back to Buffalo's practice squad after clearing waivers last August, and that could very well happen again this year.

Gore Jr. had 4,022 rushing yards and 692 receiving yards across four seasons at Southern Miss. He scored 30 total touchdowns.

The elder Gore will become eligible for the Pro Football Hall of Fame in 2026. He made the Pro Bowl five times and was an All-Pro once. He finished his career with 16,000 rushing yards, which ranks third on the NFL’s all-time list. Gore’s best years came with the San Francisco 49ers, but he played one year for the Bills near the end of his career in 2019.
