One stat shows just how impressive Cal Raleigh's season has been

With catcher Cal Raleigh reaching the 50-homer milestone on Tuesday night, it's easy to overlook what he's doing from each side of the plate as a switch-hitter during his monster season.

Raleigh's 50th home run on Monday night against the San Diego Padres was not only a thing of beauty, but also his 20th as a right-handed batter.

If you take just those 20 home runs alone and put Raleigh on any other team other than the Seattle Mariners, he would be pacing six other teams in homers.

Use only his 30 home runs he has belted from the left side of the plate and Raleigh would be the current home run leader on 22 other MLB teams. Among those are the Houston Astros, the team Seattle is chasing in the American League West (Jose Altuve's 22 homers pace the Astros heading into Tuesday's action).

So which other teams have a 30-homer player on their roster heading into Tuesday's play?

Los Angeles Dodgers — Shohei Ohtani (45)

Philadelphia Phillies — Kyle Schwarber (45)

New York Yankees — Aaron Judge (40)

Seattle Mariners — Eugenio Suarez (40, including 36 hit as a member of the Arizona Diamondbacks)

Tampa Bay Rays — Junior Caminero (39)

New York Mets — Juan Soto (32)

Detroit Tigers — Riley Greene (31)

Los Angeles Angels — Taylor Ward (30)

In what has already been a historic season for the 28-year-old Raleigh, he is also the first player in MLB history to hit 20 home runs from each side of the plate in a single season, surpassing the numbers set by revered switch hitters such as Mickey Mantle, Chipper Jones and Eddie Murray.

With the Mariners having 30 games left in the regular season, Raleigh could still be on pace for a 60-home run season. In MLB history, there have been just 51 50-homer seasons and only nine times has a player gone on to smack 60 home runs in a campaign (the most recent being Aaron Judge's 62 in 2022).

Just how far Raleigh and the Mariners can go will be one of the biggest late-season MLB storylines in what has already been a spectacular season in the Pacific Northwest.
