Former Alabama star questions Jordan Rodgers' Arch Manning hot take

What does former Vanderbilt Commodores quarterback Jordan Rodgers have against Texas Longhorns QB Arch Manning?

At SEC media days in July, Rodgers — the younger brother of Pittsburgh Steelers QB Aaron — said he believes Manning is overhyped. He doubled down on that take on "Get Up" Wednesday, saying, "The hype doesn't match [his] tape."

Former Alabama Crimson Tide quarterback Greg McElroy believes Jordan Rodgers is wrong.

"I'm gonna respectfully disagree," the national champion said Thursday on "Get Up" (h/t On3's Dan Morrison). "I went back and watched the tape yesterday and was like, Maybe Arch is better than I thought, after watching a few plays, because his game against Mississippi State, in particular, was off the charts good. Watch this play. You've got a guy off the edge. He has to negotiate that pass-rush. Steps up beautifully. Here's what makes him different. Look at the angles the defenders take. Those are terrible. Yes, that is an indictment of the defenders. Sure, but it might be showing how fast Arch is."

Manning attempted just 95 passes in his first two seasons with the Longhorns, but his game against Mississippi State last season was impressive. He started for an injured Quinn Ewers in the 35-13 victory, going 26-of-31 passing for 325 yards and two touchdowns. He also rushed for a score and 33 yards on six carries.

Manning still must prove himself against elite competition. He has a chance to do that in Saturday's road matchup against the No. 3 Ohio State Buckeyes at noon ET on Fox.

On Monday, Texas head coach Steve Sarkisian told ESPN's Heather Dinich Manning doesn't need to do anything "superhuman." However, the Longhorns may need him to make one or two big plays.

If he does, the tape will begin to match the hype, which would silence Jordan Rodgers' criticism about the 21-year-old signal-caller.
