Carson Beck's redemption season in Miami gets off to strong start

Miami quarterback Carson Beck is trying not only to rebuild his reputation following a disappointing 2024 season at the University of Georgia, but also his potential draft stock for the 2026 NFL Draft. All of that got off to a strong start on Sunday night in a 27-24 victory over No. 6-ranked Notre Dame.

Overall, Beck's numbers were not the best you will see in Week 1, and it was far from the best game he's ever had in college.

He completed 20-of-30 passes for 206 yards and two touchdowns.

Solid. Fair. Respectable. Definitely winning football.

The biggest number, however, might have been zero.

As in zero interceptions.

One of the things that got Beck into trouble during the 2024 season at Georgia was the fact that turnovers became a huge problem for him, ending the season with 12 interceptions and too many mistakes in big games and big moments.

A lot of that was cleaned up on Sunday.

He protected the ball, made quick and smart decisions and showed strong poise in the pocket to be able to avoid the rush and make accurate throws while under duress.

His first touchdown of the night to open the scoring saw him evade the rush, move to his left and throw a strike to Malachi Toney.

His second touchdown pass to CJ Daniels was more about the catch than anything else, but it was still a strong throw from Beck while again under pressure.

When the 2024 season began, Beck was considered to be one of the top prospects for the 2025 NFL Draft, and potentially the No. 1 overall pick. But after his performance regressed across the board, and as turnovers rapidly increased, and then when you add in some injury issues, it all absolutely crushed his draft stock and resulted in him entering the transfer portal.

He took a lot of the heat for Georgia's offensive struggles, and now he is getting a chance to write a new story for himself.

It is an interesting match because Miami is definitely opening the season as a College Football Playoff contender, and Beck has shown he can be a big-time quarterback at the highest level of college football. If he can start to regain his 2023 form, as opposed to his 2024 form, that could make Miami one of the teams to beat in college football this season.

Scoring a win over the No. 6 team in the country to open the season is a great start for that. Especially with Beck playing an efficient, winning brand of football.
