While it's situated nearly three hours from the University of Arkansas, War Memorial Stadium in Little Rock has hosted at least one Arkansas football game since 1948, save for two years.
On Saturday, Arkansas State will clash with the Razorbacks in a history matchup that could be the final Arkansas football game ever played at War Memorial Stadium.
Here are five iconic moments in the history of Razorback football at WMS.
5. Arkansas edges Texas in final clash as SWC members (1991)
In 1991, War Memorial Stadium played host to the final contest between bitter rivals Arkansas and Texas while the teams were still Southwest Conference foes.
In what turned out to be an otherwise forgettable 6-6 campaign for head coach Jack Crowe and the Hogs, Arkansas beat the Longhorns, 14-13, after a fourth-down stop with 30 seconds to play — a stop that was largely made possible by a deafening Little Rock crowd.
4. The Powder River Play vs. Ole Miss (1954)
The lone score in No. 7 Arkansas' matchup with No. 5 Ole Miss in 1954 at War Memorial came on one of the most iconic plays in Razorback history.
The play, coined by head coach Bowden Wyatt, saw Buddy Bob Bensen appear to run a sweep to the left — only to square up and fire a perfect pass downfield to Preston Carpenter, who caught a 66-yard TD pass that ended up being the difference in Arkansas' biggest win of the 1954 campaign. Arkansas won, 6-0.
3. The Miracle on Markham, Part II (2008)
To put it bluntly, Arkansas' first season under head coach Bobby Petrino in 2008 was not a good one. The Razorbacks entered the season finale against SEC West-rival LSU with a 4-7 record and no chance of making a bowl game.
Against a 7-4 LSU squad, the Hogs fell behind, 30-14, in the third quarter. But quarterback Casey Dick led a Razorback rally in the final period, and on fourth-and-1 with less than 30 seconds to play, Dick found London Crawford in the corner of the end zone for a touchdown that sent the Razorback faithful into a frenzy.
A successful extra point and subsequent defensive stand put an exclamation point on Petrino's first year as the Head Hog.
2. No. 12 Arkansas takes down No. 5 LSU (2010)
Two years later, Petrino and the Razorback had emerged as a national threat. With No. 5 LSU back in Little Rock after Thanksgiving, quarterback Ryan Mallett led Arkansas to a 31-23 win that helped the Hogs earn a Cotton Bowl bid against Ohio State.
The victory also served as the catalyst for Arkansas' 2011 season that saw Petrino and the Razorbacks get back to and — this time, against Kansas State — win the Cotton Bowl.
1. The Miracle on Markham (2002)
Arkansas was only 8-3 going into its matchup with No. 17 LSU in 2002, but everything was on the line for the Hogs and Tigers in Little Rock. The winner of the Battle for the Golden Boot would go to Atlanta to play in the SEC Championship game.
LSU led, 20-14, with less than a minute to play, but a heave from quarterback Matt Jones got Arkansas into LSU territory. Two snaps later, Jones threw up a prayer to receiver DeCori Birmingham, who caught the ball in the same corner of the end zone that Crawford would six years later in the Miracle on Markham's reprise.
Just like in 2008, a converted PAT and defensive stand gave Arkansas the 21-20 win.
