Tyreek Hill speaks out about getting snubbed by Dolphins after controversial offseason

This NFL season will be the first time wide receiver Tyreek Hill will not be a team captain since he joined the Miami Dolphins in 2022.

On Monday, the Dolphins named six players as captains for 2025: quarterback Tua Tagovailoa, center Aaron Brewer, fullback Alec Ingold, linebacker Jordyn Brooks, defensive lineman Zach Sieler and defensive end Bradley Chubb.

On Wednesday, Hill told reporters that he didn't need the "C" on his jersey to be a leader in Miami's locker room.

“It’s about the team, and I don’t need a title to be able to lead,” Hill said, via Michael Davis Smith of Pro Football Talk. “I’m going to continue to push the standard that coach and these guys are pushing in the locker room. I’ve always been a guy that led by example. So the captain thing is great, but I’m going to continue to do the small things, which is work hard, show up each and every day and bust my tail for this team.”

In May, Hill said he didn't think he was deserving of being a captain this season unless he proved to the team in training camp that he was worthy of the honor.

Some friction in the offseason with the Miami Dolphins

Hill's comments in January didn't help his standing in the locker room when the All-Pro receiver told the media he was "opening the door" to play with another team in 2025.

By his lofty standards, Hill had a frustrating season in 2024 amid Tagovailoa's concussion. He recorded 81 receptions for 959 yards and six touchdowns. It was the first year Hill did not eclipse 1,000 yards receiving since 2019, when he only played in 12 games. It was also the first year in his career that he did not make the Pro Bowl.

Hill can prove to the Dolphins that he's a leader by his play and attitude this season. If he succeeds, he could be a team captain for the fourth time in 2026.
