The Los Angeles Chargers kick off their 2025 season with a massive Week 1 contest with the Kansas City Chiefs on Friday.
The Chiefs are, of course, a dynasty. Until proven otherwise, they're also the cream of the crop in the AFC West, winning the division nine seasons in a row.
If the Chargers want to take that next step and compete with the Chiefs in the division in Jim Harbaugh's second season as head coach, getting off to a hot start with a win in Week 1 will be huge.
To that point, Harbaugh did reveal some good news on Wednesday. Running back Najee Harris, who has missed all of training camp with an eye injury after a fireworks mishap on the Fourth of July, is expected to play against Kansas City.
Harris is now being listed as a full participant in practice, and though he doesn't know how much he'll play, Harbaugh does know the former Alabama running back will see the field.
"He says he's ready, and he looks ready to go," Harbaugh said, according to Nate Taylor of ESPN. "Really hard to predict play counts. He's going to play football and have at it. That's the mindset."
Harris is heading into his fifth NFL season after being selected by the Pittsburgh Steelers with the 24th overall pick in the 2021 NFL Draft.
In Pittsburgh, he put up 4,312 yards and 28 touchdowns over four seasons while also adding 1,149 yards and six touchdowns receiving.
Harris is one of the better running backs in the NFL when he's healthy, which is why the Chargers gave him a one-year deal worth up to $9.25M in the offseason.
He doesn't have any guarantees past 2025, though, so you can bet he'll be looking to do everything he can this season to earn another contract. Whether that's in L.A. or elsewhere remains to be seen, but he should be extremely motivated to run hard for the Chargers.
