New England Patriots newcomer Stefon Diggs chose not to speak to the media during NFL training camp and the preseason. Diggs hasn't talked much to the media since he deflected questions about his boating activities during voluntary OTAs in May.
On Wednesday, Diggs acknowledged his decision to keep a low profile in August, saying he wanted to get his body and mind right while recovering from the ACL injury that ended his season in 2024.
"Obviously, I haven't talked much in camp," Diggs said, via Michael Hirley of NBC Sports Boston. "It's nice to see everybody here. I appreciate y'all, appreciate your patience. I just try to take this time to be focused, get my mind right, get my body right, come into camp with the right mindset, physically and mentally, it's always a thing in camp, so I just needed that time. So I appreciate y'all having patience with me."
Diggs' decision not to speak to Boston media rubbed local reporters the wrong way, with comments by Phil Perry and Tom E. Curran on "Quick Slants" that the All-Pro was being a pain in the "posterior" for New England.
Diggs apologized for coming off rudely.
"Obviously, I don't want to come across as that," Diggs said. "And I'm gonna say this, I want to be very clear: I'm an adult. I'll apologize. I'm not up here to ego trip. I'm not up here to rub anybody the wrong way or say anything for clickbait. If I rubbed anybody wrong, I really want to apologize."
Diggs plans to make himself available to the media every week during the season. He added that he wanted to "get things on the right foot" now that the regular season is starting.
As long as Diggs sticks to his commitment, he shouldn't have a problem with the local media moving forward. Of course, how the four-time Pro Bowl receiver acts when he's tested during the regular season remains to be seen.
