Earlier this summer, Kansas City Chiefs star tight end Travis Kelce suggested he was more focused on football-related matters now than he was in August 2024. Of course, he offered such comments before he and entertainment superstar Taylor Swift announced their engagement.
While speaking with reporters ahead of Friday's game between the Chiefs and the Los Angeles Chargers that will take place in Brazil, Kelce was asked about his focus ahead of what could become the final season of his NFL playing career.
"I got one more ring from it," Kelce said about being engaged to one of the most famous people on the planet, per Jesse Newell of The Athletic. "Ever since I’ve been dating Taylor, life has been fun. It’s been exciting. Obviously, a lot more eyes, and I accept that. It’s just … I’m living life, living on the high degree."
Kelce helped Kansas City earn a Super Bowl LVIII win over the San Francisco 49ers back in February 2024, but a subsequent report shared that some individuals within the Chiefs had been concerned during that season about the future Hall of Famer's "high-demand schedule."
Kelce then accepted high-profile acting gigs and was named the host of Amazon’s "Are You Smarter Than a Celebrity?" program last offseason as he and his brother, former Philadelphia Eagles center Jason Kelce, continued hosting their successful "New Heights" podcast.
Travis Kelce's 823 receiving yards and three touchdown catches for the 2024 campaign were career lows outside of when he appeared in a single game as a rookie in 2013. His performances from last September through Kansas City's Super Bowl LIX loss to the Philadelphia Eagles left him with a "bad taste" in his mouth that he felt he could only get rid of by returning for another season of action.
That said, the three-time Super Bowl champion who turns 36 years old this coming October is in the final season of his contract. Understandably, he was asked on Thursday if Friday's contest would prove to be the start of a retirement tour.
"It’s the last one on the contract right now," Kelce said about his status. "But I’ll tell you what, I’m feeling young and I’m feeling ready to rock."
As of Thursday morning, ESPN BET had the Chiefs as 3.5-point favorites over the Chargers. Meanwhile, DraftKings Sportsbook had Kansas City fourth among the betting favorites at +850 odds to win Super Bowl LX this coming February.
Kelce will have an opportunity to make quite a statement regarding his pursuit of yet another ring in Sao Paulo.
