Phillies reportedly willing to hand blank check to star slugger

Philadelphia Phillies designated hitter Kyle Schwarber is slated to become a free agent this offseason. That does not necessarily mean that he will be leaving Philadelphia behind.

USA Today's Bob Nightengale reported that Schwarber likely is not going anywhere during the offseason. According to Nightengale, the Phillies are willing to open the vaults as they refuse to be outbid for his services.

Kyle Schwarber important part of Philadelphia Phillies on and off the diamond

The 32-year-old Schwarber has been a key part of the Phillies' success since signing a four-year, $79 million contract prior to the 2022 season. He has hit at least 38 homers in each season, hitting 40+ homers three times. A two-time All-Star during his stint in Philadelphia, Schwarber has posted a .226/.349/.506 batting line with 180 homers and 82 doubles over 2,710 plate appearances for the Phillies.

Schwarber has been at his best this season. He had produced a .243/.366/.568 batting line in 629 plate appearances entering Sunday, hitting a National League leading 49 homers while driving in 119 runs. His performance has led NBA Hall of Famer Charles Barkley to endorse Schwarber for the NL MVP award.

Schwarber has been more than just his production on the diamond. Nightengale noted that the slugger is considered their "ultimate clubhouse leader" as well, making him a vital part regarding team chemistry. While that does not show up on a stat sheet, Schwarber has proven his value to the Phillies in virtually every aspect.

Schwarber has been an important part of the Phillies since he signed ahead of the 2022 season. If the Phillies have their way, he will not be going anywhere this offseason.
