Packers' Micah Parsons sends warning to Lions RT after Week 1 game

The impact of Micah Parsons on the Green Bay Packers was felt immediately on Sunday, but the star pass-rusher waited until 3:26 left in the fourth quarter to make his first sack of the season.

The Detroit Lions planned for Parsons, giving him a double-team for much of the game and allowing All-Pro right tackle Penei Sewell to take the bulk of the responsibility for blocking the four-time Pro Bowl defensive end.

Following the Packers' 27-13 triumph over the Lions, Parsons told the media that Sewell is a special player and warned that he's a new rival as Philadelphia Eagles offensive tackle Lane Johnson is no longer in his division.

"I'm not gonna be able to get rid of him," Parsons said, via Matt Schneiderman of The Athletic. "He's a hell of a player. I told him, I said, 'You're my new rivalry now. I don't got Lane no more. It's gonna be you. I'mma see you twice a year, so you might as well buckle up.'"

The two players are well-decorated, with the 24-year-old Sewell earning second-team All-Pro honors twice and making the Pro Bowl three times. Parsons, 26, has earned first-team All-Pro honors twice and has made the Pro Bowl four times.

The sack by Parsons was the defensive end's only tackle of the game on Sunday.

The Lions and Packers have played meaningful football games in recent years. Detroit will next host Green Bay on Thanksgiving.

While Parsons only made one tackle, he helped the front seven as a whole. The Lions finished with just 46 rushing yards on 22 carries, down from the 149.4 yards per game they averaged in 2024. He also helped take Detroit's focus off defensive end Rashan Gary, who finished with 1.5 sacks.
