George Kittle to miss significant time as 49ers deal with numerous injuries

The San Francisco 49ers won an important game on the road against a division opponent in Week 1, but the victory came at a fairly steep cost.

George Kittle caught a touchdown pass from Brock Purdy on the 49ers' first drive of their 17-13 road win over the Seattle Seahawks at Lumen Field on Sunday. The Pro Bowl tight end left the game a short while later with a hamstring injury and did not return.

Kittle is now expected to miss around a month, according to Ian Rapoport of NFL Media. The 49ers could potentially put him on injured reserve.

Brock Purdy was also banged up during Sunday's game. Purdy suffered a shoulder injury and a toe injury in the win, and 49ers head coach Kyle Shanahan said the latter is more bothersome. Purdy's status for Week 2 against the New Orleans Saints is uncertain.

But that's not all. Jauan Jennings, who entered the year as San Francisco's top wide receiver, is also battling a shoulder ailment.

For those keeping track at home, that makes injuries to three of the 49ers' most important offensive skill players. Christian McCaffrey was also on the injury report ahead of Week 1, but he played and racked up 142 total yards from scrimmage. The star running back also reached an impressive milestone in the game.

The 49ers traded away Deebo Samuel during the offseason, and Brandon Aiyuk is still working his way back from a knee injury. Ricky Pearsall looked explosive on Sunday with four catches for 108 yards. He could be leaned on more heavily with Kittle out and Jennings dinged up.

It is better for San Francisco to be without Kittle early in the season rather than later, but there is no question Week 1 was not kind to the team in the injury department.
