The San Francisco 49ers have waived kicker Jake Moody per insider Tom Pelissero of NFL Network. After a 17-13, Week 1 win in Seattle, where Moody only made one out of his three field-goal attempts, a move had to be made by the organization.

The former third-round selection in 2023 spent two seasons with the team and declined in performance with every passing year.
In his rookie year, he made 21-of-25 field goals, with a long of 57 yards. He also made all three of his attempts in Super Bowl LVIII but had one of his extra-point attempts blocked.
During his second year, he only made 24-of-34 field goals with a long of 53 yards. He also missed three games with a high ankle sprain after attempting to make a tackle on a kickoff return.
Despite having the ability to make long kicks, the 25-year-old was too inconsistent and inaccurate during critical situations that cost the 49ers multiple scoring opportunities.
On Sunday, he missed his first kick of the season from 27 yards out that hit off the left upright, costing the team three points in a one-possession game and forcing the team to change their gameplan and needing to rely on a game-winning drive to win.

San Francisco quickly replaced Moody by signing veteran Eddy Pinerio to a one-year deal. Pinerio left last season as the third-most accurate kicker in NFL history.

It was a move that needed to be made, and it seems like a heavy burden of uncertainty was finally lifted off the team's shoulders. Professional sports is a results-based business, and Moody was not good enough or producing to the amount that he needed to keep his job.
