Washington Commanders second-year quarterback Jayden Daniels popped up on the injury report on Monday.
Per the Commanders' website, Daniels suffered a right wrist injury. It's unclear if it occurred during the 21-6 Week 1 home win over the New York Giants. But Washington head coach Dan Quinn isn't worried about his QB.
In his Tuesday news conference, the coach said he has "zero concerns" about his QB ahead of the Commanders' road matchup against the Green Bay Packers on "Thursday Night Football." The injury doesn't seem to be bothering Daniels. The Commanders didn't practice on Monday, but he was estimated as a full participant.
He looked healthy against New York. The 2024 Offensive Rookie of the Year finished 19-of-30 passing for 233 yards and one touchdown in the win. Additionally, the 24-year-old rushed for 68 yards on 11 carries.
The Commanders still must protect their franchise cornerstone against Green Bay, which will be even more challenging now that they have edge-rusher Micah Parsons. The former Dallas Cowboy had one tackle and one sack in Green Bay's 27-13 home win over the Detroit Lions, despite not participating for most of training camp because of a contract dispute.
Quinn coached Parsons for three seasons in Dallas while serving as the team's defensive coordinator. In his Monday news conference, he said you can't simulate the pass-rusher's speed.
"In Dallas, he was one of our fastest players, so that's the hardest thing to simulate for an offensive tackle to see the first couple, two or three steps," the coach said. "It's not at a speed you can simulate in a practice rep. So early on, I think there's been some rushes that he could surprise some people if you haven't faced him, knowing that he can really jump off the ball."
On Thursday, the Commanders should lean more heavily on rookie running back Jacory Croskey-Merritt, who rushed for 82 yards and one TD on 10 carries in Week 1. Daniels seems fine. But they don't want Parsons to be chasing him throughout the matchup and to suffer another injury in the process.
