Travis Kelce makes sad admission about Xavier Worthy's injury

The Kansas City Chiefs needed a big game from Xavier Worthy in their season opener.

Unfortunately, the speedster couldn't be out there for more than a handful of minutes. A collision with Travis Kelce forced him out of the game with a dislocated shoulder, and his status for Sunday is still up in the air.

In the latest edition of his "New Heights" podcast, the superstar tight end took the blame for hurting his teammate, admitting that he messed up the route.

"I’m supposed to be running my route at depth for Worthy," Kelce explained. "So, it’s frustrating for me. I was trying to kind of set up my guy to be able to get into position, and it all just happened pretty quick. I just gotta be better, man. I’m 13 years in the league. There is no excuse for me running into my own guys like that."

Everyone makes mistakes, even future first-ballot Hall of Famers like Kelce. Even so, the Chiefs don't have much margin for error if they want to get back to the mountaintop, so Kelce is right about this being inexcusable.

Xavier Worthy, Chiefs avoid worst-case scenario

On the bright side, Worthy may have dodged a bullet and likely won't need surgery. He's currently listed as day-to-day and could even be out there in Week 2, although most likely with a protective brace.

The Chiefs are without another star pass-catcher in Rashee Rice, who's got five games left in his suspension, and not having Worthy in a Super Bowl rematch with the Philadelphia Eagles could be a lethal blow.

If that's the case, then the best way for Kelce to make up for the incident would be to punish the Eagles with a vintage performance, something that hasn't happened in a while now.
