PHOENIX — Phoenix Mercury’s Alyssa Thomas continued to push her case for MVP this season as she recorded her eighth triple-double against the Los Angeles Sparks on Tuesday night.
Thomas’ triple-double came with a little extra history. She has the second-fastest triple-double in history behind only Jessica Shepard. Thomas scored 10 points, with 11 rebounds and 10 assists.

League statisticians reached out and Alyssa Thomas had the second-fastest triple double in WNBA history (behind Courtney Williams).
ESPN had the original report of Jessica Shepard having the fastest TD, so that’s where my original citation came… https://t.co/jqzjxMSBbV
“I don’t think it’s something I’m thinking about right now,” Thomas said post-game, according to the team’s recording. “I think when it’s all said and done, when I look back on my career, then I’ll reflect on it. But right now, it’s just doing me.”
Thomas continues to lead the league in triple-doubles this season, with more than the rest of the WNBA combined — the rest of the league has seven. She now has 23 triple-doubles in her entire career.
“[Thomas] impacts the game at a high level,” head coach Nate Tibbetts said, according to the team’s post-game recording. “She did it tonight in quick fashion and she’s just continued to do it, night after night.”
With each historic performance, Thomas continues to showcase why she is the league’s most complete player — and a potential MVP recipient.
