Ravens' Lamar Jackson apologizes, offers advice to Bills fan he shoved in retaliation

Lamar Jackson got into a confrontation with a fan during the Baltimore Ravens' thrilling game against the Buffalo Bills on Sunday night, and the star quarterback has since expressed regret over the incident.

Jackson and a fan got physical with one another late in the third quarter of the Ravens’ 41-40 loss to the Bills at Highmark Stadium in Orchard Park, New York. The two-time NFL MVP and his teammates were celebrating after Jackson threw a touchdown pass to DeAndre Hopkins, and a fan reached over and smacked Hopkins on the helmet. The same fan then shoved Jackson, so Jackson shoved him back.

Following the game, Jackson said he let his emotions get the best of him and that he should have let security handle the fan.

Lamar Jackson offers some advice and an apology

The NFL announced on Monday that the fan who shoved Jackson has been banned indefinitely from all NFL stadiums.

Jackson was asked about the altercation again after Wednesday's practice. He said he reacted without even thinking and apologized to the fan.

"It just happened," Jackson said, via ESPN's Jamison Hensley. "I got pushed. I'm like, what? I wasn't even thinking about me being out there on the field. My apologies to him."

Jackson also offered some advice to the fan.

"Just chill next time," Jackson said. "You can talk trash and stuff, but keep your hands to yourself."

There may not be a "next time" for the fan if he is not allowed back into Highmark Stadium or other NFL venues.

Raven HC John Harbaugh shared his thoughts

Ravens head coach John Harbaugh defended Jackson. Harbaugh said on Tuesday that players should be able to celebrate near the stands without having fans reach over.

Harbaugh suggested Bills fans engaged in some even more dangerous behavior, too.

"I guess I didn’t know that you’re not allowed to go close to the stands to do that without being attacked by a fan. If you score a touchdown, you probably shouldn’t have a frozen water bottle thrown at you, either," Harbaugh said. "So, these are the types of things that I’m sure the NFL is going to address and deal with."

The Bills scored 16 unanswered points with under four minutes remaining to come from behind and stun the Ravens. Both Jackson and Allen played at an MVP level, which is something fans have come to expect from the two star quarterbacks.
