Pittsburgh Steelers quarterback Aaron Rodgers sometimes forgets his many requests for teammates. Luckily for him, wide receiver DK Metcalf has a good memory.
In a story published Thursday, The Athletic's Mike DeFabo reported Rodgers gave Metcalf "a lengthy homework assignment" while they roomed at training camp. The QB wanted the WR to prepare a weekly scouting report for Pittsburgh's opponents. Rodgers forgot he did that until Metcalf sent him a long text before their Week 1 game at the New York Jets.
"I kind of forgot about it," Rodgers told DeFabo after the Steelers won 34-32. "On Tuesday, guess what I got? I got a text message with his thoughts, and it wasn't a short one. It was like he put a lot of time into it.
"That's what everybody loves about DK ... he really cares about it."
This is just one example of Metcalf impressing the Steelers since they acquired him from the Seattle Seahawks in March.
Metcalf wasn't happy in his final season with the Seahawks. In March, he said he often felt like an "outsider" in Seattle after the team moved on from former head coach Pete Carroll before the 2024 season. Now, he feels at home in Pittsburgh, where it sounds like he has been a consummate professional.
"I look at him like he's the blueprint," Steelers second-year WR Roman Wilson said. "Not only is he big, strong, fast, but he has everything off the field. How he carries himself in the meeting room, how he carries himself off the field, taking care of his body, everything. He's the blueprint."
He will face Seattle for the first time in Sunday's home game at 1 p.m. ET (Fox). The WR said it's not a big deal to him. Still, Metcalf — who had four receptions for 83 yards in Week 1 — will want to keep excelling against his former team.
Metcalf signed a four-year, $132M deal with the Steelers after he was traded from the Seahawks. Remembering Rodgers' homework assignment is one way he's showing that it may already be a worthwhile investment for the team.
