Once again, the Philadelphia Eagles are making the rounds for their most infamous play.
The "tush push" is already hard to stop as it is, but the fans are complaining about some blatant no-calls that made it impossible to contain in Week 2. Star left tackle Jordan Mailata has had enough of all the complaints, and he wants everybody to stop making up excuses for their success.
"I understand the outrage," the tackle said on 94 WIP. "What I don't understand is them using it as an excuse to why we won the game. I think it's incredibly disrespectful to our defense and our special teams, who balled out. My brothers on defense and special teams who balled out that game, who had our backs when we weren't moving the ball or weren't doing anything."
Mailata believes people are overreacting about the impact this play has had on their success, and he wants everybody to give their defense credit for the win as well.
"That kind of irks me a little bit. That p-sses me off because we give so much to this game and to kind of base off a short-yardage play — that is a football play," he continued. "And say that we won the game off that, but not how our defense played and not how our special teams have played, putting us in those positions. You know, I think it's bullcr-p. I just think it's rubbish. Absolute rubbish, man. It makes my blood boil just thinking about it."
Multiple reviews showed that both guards were constantly beating the snap. Center Cam Jurgens was also spotted offside multiple times, but the referees didn't call it.
The Eagles offensive line is perhaps the most physical in the game, and that kind of advantage only makes it more difficult to stop. Of course, that's by no means the only reason Nick Sirianni's team has been so good, and, technically, all teams could run the play if they wanted to.
But with all the recent chatter, it won't be much of a surprise to see the referees take a closer look at their formation and change the way they're calling it.
