A runner-up finish didn't appear to be in the cards for NASCAR Cup Series driver Josh Berry early in Sunday's Mobil 1 301 at New Hampshire Motor Speedway.
A spin off the front end of Shane van Gisbergen early in Stage 2 put the driver of the No. 21 Wood Brothers Ford behind the eight ball and seemingly took a fast car out of contention for the win.

But Berry and the No. 21 team fought back all afternoon, and when the chips were down, he was in the fight for the win.
Unfortunately for him, 2023 Cup Series champion Ryan Blaney was too fast to hold off.
Blaney passed Berry for the race lead with 39 laps to go on fresher tires, and despite myriad attempts from Berry to get the top spot back, the No. 21 was too loose in the closing laps.
Still, a second-place finish is a great result for a team that struggled mightily over the first three weeks of the playoffs and was eliminated from the postseason after the Round of 16.

"That was definitely an awesome day," Berry told USA Network. "Hats off to Ryan at the end. I was a little worried when he got around me as quick as he did, but it kind of seemed like it leveled out and I was able to keep him honest at the end."
Berry, who notched his first career Cup Series win at Las Vegas Motor Speedway in March, will carry plenty of momentum into the Sept. 28 race at Kansas Speedway, where he'll go for his second win of the 2025 season.
