Coming off a bye week, Boise State outlasted Air Force, 49-37, on Saturday, and the Broncos offense looked all too familiar to fans across the country.
Sophomore running back Dylan Riley tallied 171 yards on 19 carries, along with two receptions for 84 yards. He also accounted for five of Boise State’s seven touchdowns. While Riley’s yardage total falls short of former Broncos star Ashton Jeanty’s average of 185.8 from a season ago, the similarities are clearly there.
Like Jeanty, Riley displayed great vision and cutting ability, which could be seen during his two longer touchdown runs.

Where Riley separates himself is with his speed. Late in the third quarter, he caught a screen pass from quarterback Maddux Madsen and left everyone in the dust for a 75-yard score.

After a lackluster performance in Week 1 against South Florida, Riley has put together back-to-back 100-plus-yard showings. Although this still doesn’t put him on track to match Jeanty’s whopping stats from 2024, Riley is proving to be much more of a threat in the passing game.
Through his three games of the 2024 season, Jeanty had a measly 12 receiving yards. Riley, on the other hand, already has 89 this season.
The Broncos’ 2025 campaign is still young, so it’s way too early to claim that Riley will also end up in New York City for the Heisman Trophy celebration in December. Tougher opponents await the sophomore stud, too, including a road trip to Notre Dame in October.
One thing is for sure, though: Boise State possesses another lethal weapon in the backfield.
