Jerry Jones' latest Micah Parsons comments should infuriate Cowboys fans

The Dallas Cowboys have given up 92 points through three weeks. That's the fourth-most they've given up in the first three weeks of any season in franchise history.

Of course, having one of the best pass-rushers in the game could certainly help their case. Unfortunately, they just happened to trade Micah Parsons.

Still, Jerry Jones claims to have a plan. Notably, that plan might even include trading the first-round pick they got from the Packers to get a special player. Who knows? It might even be the next Micah Parsons.

Jerry Jones' latest comments are just what he needed

“If I had the opportunity to really do some good with those picks, I would do it. We’ve got them and that’s one of the advantages to making the trade,” Jones said, per the team's official website. “You’ve got to have something that comes your way that’s really special, and if you’ve got the currency to do it, which in this case would be draft picks, we’ll do it.”

This is precisely why the fans have to be absolutely crushed right now. Jones consistently insists his team is contending, but seems to have no plan to make such claims a reality as he makes confusing and counterproductive roster decisions. Like, for example, trading an arguably generational pass-rusher in the prime of his career for draft capital that you can only wish will help you find a player even close to the talent of the one you shipped out.

Then again, this isn't an isolated incident or a coincidence. Jones is very meticulous with his words, and he knows just what he's doing. He knows the media would pick up that quote and drive attention away from the fact that his team can't get a stop. He's a "no publicity is bad publicity" kind of guy, and we're just playing along here.

Cowboys fans should give up hope

Still, this is precisely what Cowboys fans may have lost faith in their team already, and we're not talking about this season. The Parsons trade confirmed the harsh reality they've been fearing for years.

Things aren't going to change as long as Jones is calling all the shots, and he's not going to stop calling the shots until he can no longer physically do so.

He's done an outstanding job of building wealth, and the Cowboys will always be among the top-selling teams. But when it comes to building a roster or a relationship with his players, he's left much to be desired.

It's gotten hard not to question whether, for Jones, it's not about winning, but staying on top of the media cycle.
