During a Tuesday appearance on Detroit radio station 97.1 The Ticket, Detroit Lions quarterback Jared Goff made it known that the 38-30 win at the Baltimore Ravens on Monday night "was one of [his] favorites" since he first joined the Lions in 2021.
Goff didn't post monster numbers in that victory, but he clearly impressed Detroit head coach Dan Campbell with his performance at M&T Bank Stadium.
"I'm telling you, the guy is playing at a very high level," Campbell said about Goff during a Wednesday 97.1 The Ticket appearance, per John Maakaron of Sports Illustrated. "You're talking about running the quarterback position. I mean, nobody's playing it better than him right now."
Goff largely served as a game manager while he completed 20-of-28 pass attempts for 202 yards and a touchdown versus the Ravens. That said, he was responsible for a key fourth-down pickup when he hit wide receiver Amon-Ra St. Brown for a 20-yard gain that extended a Detroit drive with fewer than two minutes remaining in regulation. The Lions then iced the game away via a 31-yard rushing touchdown on the very next play.
"Goff had a very efficient game," Campbell added during the segment. "A number of things people don't even have no idea that he did in that game. It was big time, man. I'm talking about high-level quarterback play. High level. A function of the play in the huddle, all the different audible systems that we have that he can get into per play, per look. And then in the moment, crowd noise, everything, critical moments. Just some of the little nuances of the position that he did. Everybody was set up right. Make sure we're all on point."
According to Pro Football Reference, Goff ended Week 3 of the season ranked third in the NFL among qualified players with an 81.7 adjusted QBR, second with a 120.2 passer rating and first with a 77.9 percent completion percentage. Only Baltimore's Lamar Jackson tallied more touchdown passes (nine) than Goff (seven) over the campaign's first three weeks.
As of Wednesday morning, DraftKings Sportsbook had Goff 10th among the betting favorites at +3500 odds to claim the Most Valuable Player Award for the ongoing regular season. He will look to add another victory to his record when the Lions host the 1-2 Cleveland Browns this coming Sunday afternoon.
