The biggest storyline heading into Sunday's matchup between the 1-2 Dallas Cowboys and 2-1 Green Bay Packers involves Micah Parsons returning to Dallas as a visiting player for the first time since being traded to Green Bay for two first-round draft picks and defensive tackle Kenny Clark in late August.
Thus, some have either forgotten or don't even realize that Clark featured only for the Packers from 2016 through the morning of the Aug. 28 trade. On Wednesday, Clark spoke about facing his former team for the first time.
"When you've been somewhere for nine years, it's hard to not have those emotions, but it's another game," Clark explained, according to Patrik Walker of the Cowboys' website. "It's another game, at the end of the day. I'm definitely going to be amped up. I'm gonna be ready to go, and prepare to do everything I gotta do in order to help my team win but, at the end of the day, yeah, we're trying to get a win."
Clark earned three Pro Bowl nods during his nine-season Green Bay tenure before the Packers decided that parting ways with the 29-year-old was worth landing Parsons in a trade. Meanwhile, Parsons said earlier in the week that attempting to sack friend and Dallas quarterback Dak Prescott on Sunday evening is "going to be painful."
Clark seemingly doesn't feel quite the same about pursuing Packers signal-caller Jordan Love.
"Yeah, you get to hit now," Clark warned while speaking about Love. "I'm excited, bro. I'm excited. It's been a long time coming, and it's definitely something I've been thinking about since I got traded here. I'm excited to go."
Packers coaches likely feel they will be ready for anything and everything that Clark attempts on Sunday night. That said, Clark can give the Dallas coaching staff a solid scouting report regarding the Green Bay offense.
"I know them in and out, and they know me," Clark added. "I've been going against those guys for a long time, and I know how they like to block, and all that kind of stuff — as far as scheme and all that kind of stuff. That's a little tougher. But as far as just me versus a guy, knowing how they're gonna block me? They know what I'm gonna do, I know what they're gonna do."
As of Thursday morning, ESPN BET had the Cowboys as 6.5-point home underdogs against the Packers. Perhaps Clark will use that information as additional bulletin-board material as he prepares to face the club that discarded him ahead of Labor Day.
