Jets' Aaron Glenn addresses takes about viral celebration dance in loss to Buccaneers

First-year New York Jets head coach Aaron Glenn went viral due to the unique dance celebration he unleashed after his club turned a blocked field goal into a go-ahead scoop-and-score with under two minutes remaining in the Week 3 game at the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

Glenn also attracted criticism for spiking the figurative football too early, as the Jets defense was unable to prevent the Buccaneers offense from getting into range for what became a walk-off field goal that dropped Gang Green to 0-3 on the season. While speaking with reporters on Thursday, Glenn indicated Jets fans can expect more of the same from him moving forward.

Aaron Glenn unapologetic for believing in New York Jets players

"Here’s what I do know: I’m going to always be me," Glenn explained, per Dennis Waszak Jr. of the Associated Press. "Listen, these guys need someone that’s going to show they believe in them and is going to show that they’re proud of them when they make plays."

Buccaneers reporter Jenna Laine of ESPN turned Glenn into a temporary Internet sensation when she synced the video of the coach's reaction to the Earth, Wind & Fire "September" song. She and others have since added additional clips to what's become a hilarious thread on X (formerly known as Twitter).

What could have become the first highlight-reel moment of Glenn's tenure instead sparked "same old Jets" takes about a franchise responsible for the longest active playoff drought among the "big four" North American professional sports leagues (tied with the NHL's Buffalo Sabres). Nevertheless, Glenn seems to have no regrets regarding his actions at Tampa Bay's Raymond James Stadium.

Aaron Glenn will never be fake as New York Jets head coach

"I’ll tell you what: If I probably didn’t do that, my wife and kids would’ve said, 'Man, what’s happening? What’s going on with you?' I’m never going to be fake," Glenn added during his comments. "I’m going to always be me. Some people like it, some people don’t. It doesn’t matter. But I’m glad that people could see me and my authentic self, no matter what. And I don’t know what it means because some people said, 'Is a head coach supposed to act like that?' How is a head coach supposed to act? I don’t know, but it was good."

Glenn will once again be searching for his first victory when the Jets play at the 0-3 Miami Dolphins this coming Monday night. If nothing else, football fans could be in for a treat as it pertains to the locker-room celebration if Gang Green delivers a win for Glenn in prime time.
