Cam Newton recently offered a harsh take on the way Tua Tagovailoa has played since signing a massive contract extension, and the Miami Dolphins quarterback has now issued a response.
Tagovailoa struggled again in Miami's 31-21 loss to the Buffalo Bills last Thursday. Newton discussed the Week 3 game on ESPN's "First Take" the following day, and the former NFL MVP spoke about how Tagovailoa needs to start playing and carrying himself like a quarterback who signed a four-year, $212.2M extension prior to last season.
Newton began by listing several quarterbacks who currently earn less than the $53M that Tagovailoa gets annually from the Dolphins.
"Am I pocket watching? No, I'm putting things into perspective here. What did Biggie say? More money, more problems. Well, in this case, it should be more money, more expectations," Newton said. "When I see Tua Tagovailoa this year alone, I've heard him more than I ever have. That's not to say you can't talk, but I like quiet Tua, Alabama Tua, chip-on-the-shoulder Tua."

On Thursday, a reporter asked Tagovailoa if he has a response for Newton and any others who have criticized him for not living up to his contract. The former No. 5 overall pick smirked and said it is a lot easier to talk about playing quarterback in the NFL than actually doing it.
"Anybody can play quarterback in this league then. I want to see anybody on the streets come and play quarterback," Tagovailoa said. "Cam's doing his thing, for sure, but I think it's easier to be able to hold a clicker and talk about it that way or talk about what someone else is doing wrong when you're not going out and having to do the same as them. It's easy to do that. I think anybody can do that. I don't think anybody can play quarterback."

Tagovailoa completed 22 of 34 passes for just 146 yards, two touchdowns and an interception in the Week 3 loss to Buffalo. He has 575 passing yards, five touchdowns and four interceptions on the season. The Dolphins are 0-3, and their offense has taken a huge step back over the last two years.
Fans in Miami are likely feeling the same way as Newton at the moment. They are hoping Tagovailoa can start proving them wrong in Monday night's game against the New York Jets.
