Chiefs star makes big statement about where Ravens' Lamar Jackson finished in 2024 MVP voting

One of the most-discussed topics of the second half of the 2024 regular season involved whether Baltimore Ravens quarterback Lamar Jackson or Buffalo Bills star Josh Allen deserved to win the Most Valuable Player Award.

Jackson ultimately finished second in MVP voting behind Allen, but Kansas City Chiefs defensive tackle Chris Jones believes the wrong man received the honor.

Chris Jones reveals pick for 2024 NFL MVP

"Any play in the game, he can change the dynamic of it," Jones said about Jackson while speaking with reporters on Thursday about this coming Sunday's game between the 1-2 Ravens and 1-2 Chiefs, per Myles Simmons of Pro Football Talk. "So, with him, it’s always tough to play against Lamar and the Baltimore Ravens. Stopping Lamar is one thing. Trying to contain him is another. Over the years, you look at how prolific as a passer he’s become — I think he’s completing 70 percent of his passes. I think he should’ve won MVP last year. Have so much respect for him."

The StatMuse website shows that Jackson and Joe Burrow of the Cincinnati Bengals finished the 2024 regular season with a league-high 45 combined passing and rushing touchdowns. Jackson was second behind Burrow (5,119) with a combined 5,087 passing and rushing yards. According to Pro Football Reference, Jackson also led all qualified players with a 119.6 passer rating.

Allen and Jackson finished the campaign tied with a league-best adjusted QBR of 74.8.

As it pertains to the ongoing season, Jackson heads into the weekend leading the NFL with 10 combined passing and rushing scores. He also leads the league with a 141.8 passer rating and an average of 9.6 yards gained per pass attempt.

What surprised Chris Jones about Ravens' loss to Detroit Lions

Jackson took seven sacks as the Ravens suffered a 38-30 home loss to the Lions during what became a back-and-forth encounter this past Monday night.

"It’s not often Lamar is easily sacked seven times," Jones added during his comments. "When I heard that stat, I was like, well, that’s crazy — because the Ravens mostly run the ball. But Lamar can pass the ball, too. It’s the dynamic of the game, I guess they went down and tried to get back in the game and [were] throwing the ball. I get it — it happens. It’s not often, but it happens."

As of Friday morning, ESPN BET had the Ravens as 2.5-point road favorites over the Chiefs. Jones will look to hassle Jackson early and often as Kansas City attempts to get to .500 ahead of October.
