Donald Trump attended the first round of the 2025 Ryder Cup on Friday, and no one was happier to see the U.S. president than Bryson DeChambeau.

Trump arrived at Bethpage Black in Farmingdale, N.Y., in time to watch players tee off for the afternoon four-ball matches. DeChambeau and Ben Griffin were paired together for their match against the European duo of Tommy Fleetwood and Justin Rose.

When DeChambeau emerged from the tunnel on his way to the first tee, Trump was waiting to greet him. DeChambeau reacted like he had been surprised by a family member he hadn’t seen in years.

Trump then accompanied DeChambeau and Griffin to the first tee.

DeChambeau has been friendly with Trump for a while. The two have played golf together several times, and Trump has been openly in awe of DeChambeau’s unique game and driving ability.

Europe dominated the morning foursome matches 3-1 in the first round, so the U.S. was in need of a boost for the afternoon session. Perhaps Trump can be the one to give it to them.
