Lane Kiffin thought outside the box for a way to motivate Ole Miss ahead of his team’s home game Saturday against LSU at Vaught-Hemingway Stadium in Oxford, Miss.
No. 13 Ole Miss came away victorious over No. 4 LSU in the marquee matchup between two previously unbeaten teams. The Rebels opened the fourth quarter with a touchdown to extend their lead to 24-13. The Tigers answered with a TD on the ensuing drive, but failed to convert on their attempted two-point conversion.
It didn’t matter in the end, as Ole Miss was able to run out the final 5:04 of the contest to seal a 24-19 win.
Kiffin took to social media shortly after the game’s conclusion. He posted what appeared to be part of Ole Miss’ scouting report on LSU. Under the section titled “In-Season Scouting Report,” there was just one brief quote attributed to LSU head coach Brian Kelly from his eponymous radio show.
“We’re looking forward to it. We’re going to keep that Magnolia Trophy right here in Baton Rouge right where it deserves to be and our guys are excited for the opportunity.”

The Magnolia Trophy is the iconic hardware Ole Miss and LSU duke out for every year during their rivalry game, the Magnolia Bowl.
LSU leads the all-time series with a 64-43-4 record over Ole Miss. The Tigers have won seven of the last 10 Magnolia Bowls, including last season’s overtime affair in Baton Rouge. But the Rebels have fared better in recent years, winning three of the five most recent matchups, including Saturday’s win.
The true test for Ole Miss comes next season when the Magnolia Bowl travels back to Tiger Stadium, where the Rebels have not won since 2008.
