After spending most of September on the injured list with a Grade 1 hamstring strain, the Philadelphia Phillies activated shortstop Trea Turner from the IL for the final game of the regular season against the Minnesota Twins to get some at-bats ahead of the postseason.
According to Matt Gelb of The Athletic, Turner became the first Phillies player since Hall of Famer Richie Ashburn in 1958 to win the National League batting title, finishing the season with a .304 average. Nico Hoerner of the Chicago Cubs finished in second.
Phillies have lifted Trea Turner after five innings. He's won the National League batting title with a .304 batting average. He is the first Phillie to do it since Richie Ashburn in 1958.

Though he won’t win the MVP award, Turner will receive MVP votes and likely finish in the top 10 after putting together a complete season in 2025. Finishing second in the National League in hits (179), fourth in stolen bases (36), sixth in triples (seven), and 16th in OPS (.812), Turner had a complete season.
Most notably for Turner, he improved his defense, which had been a disaster since becoming a Phillie. Having -16 defensive runs saved with 17 errors in 118 games (1018.2 innings) in 2024, Turner turned things around, posting a 2 DRS and committing only eight errors in 138 games (1211.1 innings), which should put him in line to win or be a Gold Glove finalist.
Turner being back healthy and ready to go heading into the playoffs is a good thing for the Phillies, as he has been their leadoff hitter and what drives their lineup this season. With a .282 average and three home runs in the first inning, having his bat-to-ball skills mixed with his occasional pop, especially to lead off a ballgame, deepens the lineup.
Proving to be no slouch when the lights are bright, Turner has done well in his career in the postseason, posting a .265 average and .730 OPS in 32 career games in the division series. With a potential 1-4 of Turner, Kyle Schwarber, Bryce Harper and Alec Bohm, a starting three of: Cristopher Sanchez, Ranger Suárez and Jesús Luzardo, and Jhoan Duran as their closer, the Phillies have one of the deepest rosters heading into the playoffs.
