Rookie QB Cam Ward doesn't hold back about Titans' 0-4 start

Tennessee Titans head coach Brian Callahan handed play-calling duties to quarterbacks coach Bo Hardegree ahead of Sunday's matchup at the 0-3 Houston Texans.

The Titans then fell to 0-4 on the season via a 26-0 loss at Houston's NRG Stadium. Following the contest, Titans rookie quarterback Cam Ward didn't hold back while speaking about the current state of the club.

Cam Ward feels winless Tennessee Titans "have nothing to lose"

"If we keeping it a buck right now, we're [expletive]," Ward said, per Turron Davenport of ESPN. "We're 0-4. At this point, we have nothing to lose. We've dropped a quarter of our [expletive] games and have yet to do anything. We have to lock, especially myself. In all three phases, we have to play together and have not done it this year yet."

It's now fair to wonder if Callahan and his staff are doing more harm than good regarding Ward's development. According to ESPN stats, the first overall pick of the 2025 NFL Draft began the final Monday of September ranked last in the league among qualified players with a 23.0 adjusted QBR and 32nd out of 33 players with a 63.9 passer rating for the campaign. Over his first four games, he tossed two touchdown passes and two interceptions.

As for Callahan, his overall record as Titans head coach fell to 3-18 via Sunday's defeat. Meanwhile, Tennessee is averaging a league-worst 210.5 offensive yards gained per game.

Are Tennessee Titans "resilient and relentless" under Brian Callahan?

As Josh Alper of Pro Football Talk pointed out, Callahan faced a question following Tennessee's latest loss regarding the "resilient and relentless" vow he made shortly after he was hired.

"I’m just going to compose myself right here before I say something I regret," Callahan responded when asked if his roster is resilient and/or relentless. "Yes, I think this team is resilient. I think it is relentless. We haven’t played good enough football, and I think those are two very distinct different things. We have to execute at a better level, we have to coach better. That’s really all I can say."

The Titans next play at the 2-2 Arizona Cardinals this coming Sunday. As of Monday morning, ESPN BET had Tennessee as an 8.5-point underdog for that matchup.
