What Eagles receiver A.J. Brown should do after cryptic tweet

The Philadelphia Eagles defeated the Tampa Bay Buccaneers 31-25 on Sunday to improve to 4-0, but you wouldn't know it by A.J. Brown's reaction to the game. After the win, the star wide receiver for the Eagles embarrassed himself with an egocentric social media post because he didn't get the ball as much as he would've liked.

A.J. Brown passive-aggressively shades the Eagles

Even though the Eagles are one of only two undefeated teams left in the NFL, Brown apparently isn't happy because he isn't lighting it up with stats. Through four games, the 28-year-old has 14 catches for 151 yards and one touchdown catch.

In Philadelphia's win against the Bucs in Week 4, Brown finished with only two catches for seven yards. That shouldn't be an issue considering the Eagles stayed undefeated, but it seems to be for Brown. After the game, he posted a cryptic quote on X, apparently illuminating his frustration with the offense.

"If you're not welcomed, not listened to, quietly withdraw. Don't make a scene. Shrug your shoulders and be on your way," the quote read.

Posting a passive-aggressive quote after a win isn't exactly quietly withdrawing or not making a scene, but that's a story for another day. The real issue is Brown's selfishness overshadowing another Eagles victory.

Complaining about not getting the ball is one thing, but Jalen Hurts targeted Brown on nine of his 24 pass attempts in Week 4. Hurts has targeted him on 28 of his 101 attempts this season (27.8 percent), the highest mark on the team. Brown's frustration with the offensive scheme through four weeks might be warranted, but he's still the focal point of the passing game.

Saquon Barkley not putting up big numbers for Eagles

Brown isn't the only Eagles star struggling to put up numbers through four games, but he may be the only one grumbling about it.

Saquon Barkley, who's on pace for only 1,007 rushing yards this season after putting up 2,005 last year, was thrilled after managing only 43 rushing yards on 19 carries against the Bucs. Why? Because winning trumps all, at least for most of the players in Philadelphia's locker room.

"I like winning. I like winning football, that's just me. I like winning football games, and I don't care what it looks like," Barkley told reporters after the game, per NBC Sports Philadelphia. "Whether it's me rushing for 20 yards or me rushing for 200 yards, whatever it takes. I don't care if the score is 6-3 or 36-4. We're 4-0."

And what about DeVonta Smith? The 2020 Heisman Trophy winner could be the best wide receiver on 20 other teams in the NFL, but he doesn't complain about his usage in this offense while playing second fiddle to Brown. Smith (17 catches for 158 yards) understands the Eagles can win without him putting up elite stats, and he seems perfectly fine with that.

Brown, meanwhile, must have his cake and eat it, too. It's a terrible look to complain about your usage when you're leading the team in targets and haven't lost a game in 2025. If Brown would rather put up empty stats and pad his Hall of Fame case, he could force a trade to the New Orleans Saints or the Cleveland Browns and lose 13 games every season.

But if Brown wants to win games, which should be the case considering he signed a contract extension to stay in Philadelphia through the 2029 season, he must put the ego aside and buy into what the Eagles are selling.
