Arizona Cardinals quarterback Kyler Murray raised some eyebrows on Wednesday with a remark he made about his future with the organization.

The Cardinals on Tuesday revealed plans for a new state-of-the-art training facility slated to open in 2028. Murray was asked about the plans on Wednesday, and made a somewhat joking comment about whether he would even be around to see it open.

“It’s beautiful. I don’t know when it’s coming out, but hopefully I’m here to see it,” Murray said.

What the future holds for Cardinals and Kyler Murray

The Cardinals could get out from under Murray’s contract after the 2027 season, so maybe this is not as much of a joke as it seems. There have been infamous concerns about his work ethic, and former teammates have been critical of his leadership skills. If the Cardinals have not started winning consistently by that point, they might start looking for a new franchise quarterback, as he would be 31 by that point.

The former No. 1 overall pick is currently in his seventh season with Arizona, and has an underwhelming record of 38-47-1 as a starter. The Cardinals have only reached the playoffs once during his time with the team.
