Ravens star has high praise for Cooper Rush amid concerning Lamar Jackson situation

The Baltimore Ravens may be without superstar quarterback Lamar Jackson this weekend as they take on the Houston Texans in a huge game. Head coach John Harbaugh has been reticent to give details, but what we do know is that Jackson suffered a hamstring injury in last weekend's 37-20 loss to the Kansas City Chiefs. We also know that Jackson did not practice on Wednesday

"How about I just don't say anything? That's what I would do. Why don't we just leave it alone," Harbaugh said when pressed about Jackson's status for the Texans game, according to Jamison Hensley of ESPN.

If Jackson can't play, the Ravens are expected to go with veteran backup Cooper Rush, who spent multiple seasons backing up Dak Prescott with the Dallas Cowboys before signing a two-year, $6 million deal this offseason with the Ravens.

There's a talent difference between Rush and Jackson, a two-time NFL MVP. Still, you get the sense that the Ravens are confident that Rush can get the job done in this huge game against the Texans if they need him to. At the very least, they're speaking confidently about the former Central Michigan quarterback.

Baltimore Ravens are confident in backup QB Cooper Rush

"He's a pros' pro," tight end Mark Andrews said of Baltimore's backup. "He really dove into this offense [and] understands it extremely well. He's going to know what to do, and I know he's fired up for the opportunity to go show what he is all about."

So what is Rush about? He went 9-5 as a backup for Dallas in seven seasons. He threw for 20 touchdowns compared to 10 interceptions, and he became known for his ability to step in and perform in a pinch. Rush may not be a franchise quarterback, but there are few backups more qualified to come in and win a game in a big spot.

This is a massive spot for the 1-3 Ravens against the 1-3 Texans. One of these two teams will fall to 1-4, and then the idea of missing the playoffs becomes a reality. If Jackson can't go and Rush is called upon, the Ravens have to feel good about their chances with him at quarterback.
