Insider suggests Adam Silver isn't a 'neutral party' in Clippers investigation

Pablo Torre's investigation of the Los Angeles Clippers' scheme to circumvent the salary cap to pay Kawhi Leonard off the books has unveiled dozens of findings.

He's found paper trails, emails, payments and even donations to the now-bankrupt company at a time when they were already being investigated by the federal government. To sum it up, it doesn't look good.

Then again, as blatant and obvious as this is, it seems like NBA Commissioner Adam Silver doesn't want to lay the hammer.

According to NBA insider Ethan Strauss, the league-wide perception is that Silver isn't only aware of the situation, but he's actually giving Steve Ballmer's team a helping hand here.

“There’s a perception in the league that NBA commissioner Adam Silver isn’t exactly a neutral party is this NBA investigation of the Los Angeles Clippers. There’s a belief within NBA circles that both sides, the Clippers and the league, have been in communication, and are on something of the same page here,” wrote Strauss.

"Fwiw, I’ve heard the same," Lakers insider Anthony Irwin added on X.

The Clippers paid Leonard the exact same amount of money he would've gotten if he had stayed with the Toronto Raptors. At the time, they couldn't offer him $190 million over four years because he was a free agent, so they seemingly made up those additional $49 million with a no-show job and stocks.

Adam Silver is dropping the ball

This isn't the first scandal Silver has been tangled up in recent days. The fans didn't appreciate that he claimed that the NBA was a "highlight sport," so not being able to pay for all the streaming services to watch all games wasn't an issue.

Then, he hinted at potentially having playoff games overseas, another unpopular measure among fans.

Now, all eyes are set on him, and he will have to make an example out of the Clippers if they're found guilty of this cardinal sin. Otherwise, the reputation and integrity of the league will take a massive hit.
