Derrick Henry responds to getting just eight carries in loss to Chiefs

To say that this has been a tough season for Derrick Henry would be a massive understatement.

It seemed that the future Hall of Famer was going to have another incredible season with the Baltimore Ravens, but he capped off his spectacular season debut (18 carries, 169 yards, two touchdowns) in the worst possible way, by losing a key fumble that cost his team a win.

Then, just a couple of weeks later, the same things happened. The Alabama product fumbled the ball late in what became a 38-30 loss to the Detroit Lions. That, plus a negative game script, led to him having just eight carries in the loss to the Kansas City Chiefs.

And while that might be frustrating, he knows he hasn't made the most of his touches so far, so it's up to him to get back on track.

“I just try to take advantage of opportunities. I don’t try to get too caught up in that, just make something happen when I’m out there with the opportunity that I get,” Henry said, per Michael David Smith of ProFootballTalk.

Henry had 42 rushing yards on those eight carries against the Chiefs, and it was his third consecutive game with 50 yards or less.

Derrick Henry embraces the challenge

To add insult to injury -- literally -- the Ravens also lost star quarterback Lamar Jackson to a hamstring injury. He'll be out for at least a couple of weeks, with Cooper Rush taking the field in his place.

At 1-3, the setting is far from ideal. Even so, Henry is facing adversity with his head up.

“Bring it on,” Henry said. “I look at it with a positive mindset. We’re 1-3. Nobody’s going to do it for us. We have to do the work.”

The Ravens will have to turn to their star running back early and often, and he will need to prove that ball security won't be an issue going forward.
