Jayden Daniels’ status for Week 5 vs. Chargers revealed

The Washington Commanders are getting a much-needed boost for their Week 5 contest against the Los Angeles Chargers.

Quarterback Jayden Daniels is expected to start for the Commanders in Week 5. Head coach Dan Quinn relayed the news during his press conference held on Friday. Quinn added that Daniels will wear a knee brace throughout the game. He has been wearing one at practice throughout the week.

Daniels hurt his left knee in the Commanders’ Week 2 loss to the Green Bay Packers. After undergoing tests with the team physician, Daniels was diagnosed with a sprained knee.

The second-year QB missed the Commanders’ last two games due to the injury. He was replaced by veteran Marcus Mariota, who led Washington to a 1-1 record during his starts.

The news of Daniels’ return for Week 5 is no surprise. He was raring to go ahead of the Commanders’ clash last week against the Atlanta Falcons, but was unable to get final clearance from the team’s medical staff before kickoff. The Commanders will still be without top receivers Terry McLaurin and Noah Brown in the road contest.

Daniels threw for 433 yards with a trio of touchdowns across Washington’s first two games of the season.
